The RISE Discussions #1
Jun 22, 2021
BMI hosted and supported a 3-session discussion on various issues of Urban Sustainability. This event was planned and organized by two of our Ph.D. students from the water lab: Eitan Benson and Roi Pertz.
Agenda
9:00 – 11:00 | Recycling Municipal Textile Waste
We live in an era of fast fashion, and our textile waste is piling up faster than we can manage. Here we will discuss solutions to the problem of mounting textile waste through intelligent policy, investment, and emergent technologies.
- Revital Nadiv / Viktoria Kanar, ReFresh Global
- Dr Gloria Yao, Director of HKRITA
- Wolfgang Ipsmillier, Technical University of Vienna
12:00 – 14:00 | Urban Renewable Energy Production
In this session, we will discuss how to challenge the conventional paradigm: that urban centres rely on power sources outside of their jurisdictions, by presenting and evaluating technologies designed to harness renewable energy sources in urban spaces.
- Dr Boaz Kedar, Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality
- Jonothan Haran, Sustainable Group, Village-in-a-Box
- Maya Mosseri, Porter School of Environmental Studies, TAU
15:00 – 17:00 | Onsite Greywater Treatment
The combination of black and grey wastewater places a high load on our water treatment systems. In this session we will present and discuss methods of mitigating that pressure with onsite grey water treeatment technologies.
- Dr Clive Lipchin, Director of CTWM, Arava Institute
- Dr Yaron Zinger, Centre for Water Senstive Cities in Israel
- Prof. Hadas Mamane, Dept. Environmental Eng., TAU
